Synopsis
At the beginning of the new century, people saw a shift in world domination from Europe to the United States. Colonialism still ruled, but democracy was within reach. Britain was struggling to contain the Irish, there was dissent in South Africa, and in the United States, the Statue of Liberty invited millions to her shores. The sinking of the Titanic was the first sign that technology could and would fail, and the centuries old conflict in Serbia led to World War I. It was a time of extraordinary scientific, technological and artistic change. Einstein, Freud, Ford and Picasso emerged and changed the world.
